Celyn felt lost. Not in the having-no-idea-where-he-was sense, but in the not-knowing-what-to-do sense. Over the past three seasons, so many things in his life had changed. Okay, maybe not that many things, but he felt like he had some excuse to be melodramatic. It wasn't very often that he was like this, so he thought he could be afforded some slack. Kapish was missing, and his sister had left the pack. Both of these events had wounded him badly.
It had been three– or was it four?– seasons since he'd last seen Kapish. That fact greatly distressed the boy since he'd considered Kapish to be one of his dearest friends and knew that life had not been so kind to her. And admittedly, he had a crush on her. Though that had diminished somewhat in her absence. Distance might make the heart grow fonder, but for him, not so much. Oh, he still had a crush on her, but it wasn't as all-encompassing as it had been. He knew that he should move on, that there was no use in pinning over his friend. Then again, he could point out that his mother hadn't moved on from his father either.
Though that was an entirely different case altogether. His parents, from what he'd gathered from his mother talking about Nahor, hadn't been in love, though he wouldn't call their relationship a one-night stand. That would be going a bit too far. He still cringed when he thought about his sister's accusations. He had only what his mother said about their relationship, since he was pretty sure that no one in the pack knew about his father. But back to the subject. What was there really for his mother to move on from? And it really was none of his business what went on in his mother's life. If his mother managed to move on and find someone else, he honestly wouldn't care. Anyone else would surely be better than his father. She deserved someone better than a male who would up and leave a couple of months after they were born.
The black retriever mix trotted down the street, head down low. Somehow, he had managed to travel all this way from the zoo. Considering his anxiety, the two year-old considered it an accomplishment. He really didn’t have a destination in mind, just going out for a walk. He wasn’t out looking for trouble like his sister might’ve done. No, he was the good child of the two, the one always in his sister’s shadow (though not so much anymore). And as much as he said that he didn’t mind being in the background, the one who was generally ignored and looked over, he did mind it. It was hard to know that your sister got attention because of her misbehavior, while he rarely was paid attention to. But he never mentioned this, preferring to keep it to himself and not wanting to bother anyone with his troubles.
He stopped for a moment to check out his surroundings. One could never be too cautious. A slight smile came to his face as he remembered that this was the same area where he’d first met Kapish. That had been a pretty good day in his opinion. If only Katell and Narcissa hadn’t ruined it in the beginning. His smile fell once he remembered that he hadn’t seen the smaller black female in a while. He shook his head. Now was not the time to be reminiscing on the past. He continued on his way, weaving through the side streets, without caring about the fact that this wasn’t the best place to be.
And if he was truly being honest with himself, him just going out for a walk was partially a lie. He was also looking for his sister. As far as he knew, Brighid hadn’t done anything about the fact that Katell had set Noose upon not only his mother, but consequently Themis and Clyde. Not to mention that Katell had attacked his mother when Lydia more or less threw Katell out of Tine (though he wasn’t sure how much Brighid knew about that). Maybe it was due to the fact that there were most likely other issues to deal with, but he was upset at the fact that nothing was being done, that Katell was allowed to go scot-free. And he couldn’t deal with that. So he was taking it upon himself to go search for her, regardless of the fact that he had no idea where she was. And he would drag her back to Tine, no matter what. Family loyalty towards her had vanished when he found out what she did. She was just another common criminal now to him.
He thought he heard a noise from behind him, freezing in his tracks. As he turned his head to see the source of the noise, a raccoon ran out from the fallen trash can, startling the poor dog. He jumped backwards, losing his balance in the process. Celyn tried to regain his balance, but was too slow in doing so, landing in a ground in a heap of tangled limbs. He let out a sigh. Why was it that whenever he tried to leave the zoo, something always happened to him? Was this the universe’s way of telling him that he should stay inside? Maybe he should start listening to it more.
