I HAVE LOVED
THE STARS TOO FONDLY
I had been curled up next to my brother, Corvus, my eyes half closed as I sleepily stared out at the dark skies. I could feel his chest go up and down his body moving just the slightest. We where slight slightly different in side, I was smaller, but the two of us were decent sizes from pups in a small litter. Granted we didn't have to share with anybody else as children which meant the milk supply was plenty. Now though we had outgrown that and had become more lively and sometimes a pain in the ass. Myself in particular. If I wasn't off causing trouble I had to be asleep or under my fathers foot. He tried hard to keep me close to him, but I was getting better at slipping away. I wanted to explore the world. There was so many things out there that I could find and learn about. So many opportunities.
Huddled up on the floor of the church I took my chance. In the early morning, just before the sun came up, I crept away from the sleeping form of my family. I was very light on my feet even when I brushed accidentally against something I made little to no noise. It didn't occur to me though that everything I brushed against left a scent though. It didn't take me long to eventually find my way out the door though. With a heart pounding my blood through my veins rapidly I took off with excitement. It was time for a real adventure.
As I loped forward I let out a little leap into the air landing with nails into the ground to keep my balance. The ground had a layer of snow over it, though not super thick, it was enough to make things a bit slippery. That didn't stop me even if I slip across the ground a few times. I just got up and began carrying on. I didn't take a second thought about how far I was getting away from home, or at least how far I was for such a young and small child. My eyes were too focused on the building ahead of me. It was beaten down and old and looked like it had many stories on the inside. I had no idea this was the fighting ring, but luckily the fights had been long over tonight when I arrived.
With slightly chilled toes and a light wheezing breath I walked through the door confidently. I only paused briefly to look around the area. Though it was dark the moonlight added enough to allow me to see a little bit of the area. I looked around the area noticing a place to go down and one to go up, but I stayed on this level. I wandered around slowly looking at large wooden boxes, they must have held something at some point because some were empty and broken. I poked my head in a few hoping to find something but instead found nothing. There had to be something fascinating here.
