Some areas of Cascaro were flooded, and others had sustained untold structural damage due to the hurricane that had recently swept through Cascaro. Akela had went on her first mission during the hurricane, and it had not been so bad. She had Lyall by her side through most of it, and Lyall had proven herself to be a fantastic teacher. The Boxer had to admit she was a bit nervous about the next task that had been given to her. She had been told what this night would bring. She would be at the top of the Watchtower keeping watch over the prison, with supervision of course. She was not nearly experienced enough to be watching over the prison on her own. One day the roles would be reversed and she would be the one with experience. She had to learn though, and that meant having more than one teacher. Lyall certainly knew a lot, but Akela was pleased that she would be able to meet more of the police force. This was certainly not where she thought she would be as a pup. Back then she would have been happier to meet someone new, but she was much more distrusting then she had been as a pup. Akela realized how naive she seemed when she saw no evil in the world, the evil sure showed her.
The scarred Boxer climbed up the steps to the Watchtower. She was a bit early, thinking that being early would look better than being late. Once she reached the top of the Watchtower, her dark eyes looked around. She was alone, at least for now. She was certain that the higher ranking police member would be here any moment, but she would savor the time she had by herself. Akela used to hate being alone, thinking that the silence was closing in on her. Now the silence was a comforting shroud that warded away the potential of her being calld names. Her biggest fear was being called ugly, not that she had ever been an attractive canine in the first place. Her mangled scars guaranteed her discontent with her appearance, and she often wondered how others saw her.
She walked to the far edge of the Watchtower, peering between the bars that were likely there to make sure humans would not fall. Everything looked so peaceful from above, but she knew that inside that prison it was not so peaceful. Murders, thieves, and worst made their bed inside that jail. The police force could continue to try to handle the sinners, but in the end Akelas pessimistic thoughts won over.
