Just One Rose That Knows Your Name
ADDICT
The dappled sun beats down on Addict's back, heating his fur to an uncomfortable temperature. He lifts his nose towards the sky, drawing in a breathy scent. The smell is murky, strong, and mixed with the distinct aroma of water. He swivels his ears, curiosity piqued. His cone-shaped ears coax the crash of distant waves into his mind-space, furthering his interest in his new surroundings.
The male tentatively steps through the woods, over fallen logs. He pays close attention to the forest floor, watching how the soil loosens the further he journeys. Eventually the soil begins to lighten, and with a few steps further it completes its evolution to sand. This terrain is new to Addict, as well as the plants. Summer sun begins to beat down harder on the doberman now that he no longer is protected by the sparse forest. The male allows his tongue to loll from his mouth, hoping to cool of easier in the summer heat. He hopes that the scent he is following-- whatever the hell it may be-- leads him to a water source.
As he descends a final dune, his honey-brown eyes finally come to rest on the scent's source. At once Addict freezes, mesmerized by the deafening roar of the waves. The male shudders with the thought of surrendering himself to the ocean's icy grip and the addictive feeling of fear that would ensue as he is carried out to sea.
Recklessly Addict trots towards the bellowing monster in front of him, his long legs carrying him the distance in little time. With each footfall his excitement spikes, mimicking the ancient swell of the ocean. He reaches the surf's edge, and his heart begins to gain velocity at an alarming rate. As his muzzle nears the expanding tide thoughts begin to race through his mind:
"What will happen if I touch it?"
"What will happen if I drink it?
"What will happen if-"
