THIS COULD ONLY GO ONE WAY
I'M NOT ALIVE, I'M NOT ALIVE WITHOUT YOU
Paired with one canine in the pack that she did not want to work with, she set off around the perimeter of Kekoa. Akela had not talked to Renier since the day she had told him that he had hurt himself enough by leaving. Seconds passed and then minutes and she still had not addressed Renier, and had no desire to do so. He had hurt her more than most, just by caring more than everyone else. She had found new friendship in Lyall, but craved more. She craved the family that she had never had, even though she embraced Kekoa and the Force as if they were her family. There was something missing in her life, and it was that void that Renier once filled. He was the only other dog in the pack that looked remotely like her, and he was the only one that had felt like true family. She had considered Renier a big brother, and the hurt that she experienced left her blaming herself for him leaving. Was she not good enough to keep him around? Did he leave because she annoyed him? Did he leave to get away from her?
All of the pain that Ren had caused was nothing in comparison to the pain she felt when a trespassing husky had ripped open her face. Lyall had been there to save her life, not her big brother. Where had he been when she needed him most? It was not fair for Akela to blame Renier for not being there to protect her, but she wasn't feeling like being fair to him. It wasn't fair for her to feel the way she had to. It wasn't fair for her have her innocence stripped, and it wasn't fair for her to lose the only family that she had even known. Akela suppressed the urge to whirl around and growl at the mastiff, and attack him for all of the pain that he had caused. It wasn't all his fault though, and that was the only thing that kept the Boxer mix moving forward.
Her head lowered as they reached the gardens where she had been attacked. She felt the urge to comb over the borders a few times before continuing, but said nothing to Renier. In order to do so she would have to talk to her partner, and she didn't want to do that. She would settle with slowly her pace, letting her eyes flicker back and forth over the land. So, far familiar scent of Kekoa was all that was in the air, but she did not let her guard down. Akela was far too experienced with the things that could happen when you leave your guard down.
