She was nervous. The member she had met with had been very professional and courteous, but that didn't help her feel more comfortable. She had just wanted to learn healing from all sources possible. It never occurred to her that she would have to trade something for lessons, but she supposed it made sense. It was naive of her to think that people would just tell her the secrets of their profession without expecting something in return. She just wished it could have been without meeting with this Commandant.
Mhera showed up at the building she was told to be at by the specified time. Thankfully, the sun was shining and the birds filled the air with song. She didn't like to think about storms, and probably could not have made the meeting if there had been thunder in the air. No, it was a beautiful day and a good one to bolster her courage. A bit. As the long-legged mutt walked slowly into the building, she couldn't help but speculate who she would be meeting and just what they would want in exchange for her lessons. Try as she might, she just could not figure out what she could possibly have to trade for knowledge. Hopefully the Commandant would have something in mind... maybe. There was always the chance that what they wanted she couldn't give.
She looked around the large room, unsure of what to do next. She was here, so now what? Nervous energy began to flow through her, so she started to pace around the room. Each step brought Mhera closer to the meeting, and each step made her heart beat faster. Images filled her head of meeting a behemoth, each reincarnation getting steadily more terrifying. Why had she ever thought she could do this by herself? She had never negotiated anything in her life. Thorne or Alex or Kamal or hell even Vandr would have been a good partner to have, to make sure she didn't do anything stupid. Or get the shit beat out of her.
It all seemed so simple at the start. Go to Tempest and ask to be taught. None of this bargaining or meeting was part of the plan. With each thought her paws paced faster, until she was practically skating around room on her long legs. If she could just get a hold of herself, she could plant her ass down and calm the hell down. Unfortunately, she was a bit of a cascading wreck. It wasn't until she nearly tripped over her own feet that the spiraling thoughts came to an abrupt halt. Mhera closed her eyes and took a deep breath. This would only make things worse, and she knew it. There was nothing to learn until the Commandant showed up. Nothing to do.
She focused on her steps instead. Measured now, paced out, she walked the far wall while staring at her paws. The focus didn't completely drown out the worry and the fear and the nerves, but it kept them from overwhelming her again. The Commandant would be here any moment, and soon everything would be over. For better or for worse.
