Life had thrown her even more curves, as if what it had given her hadn’t been enough. First, her brothers had come into the city, and then her mother. She hadn’t been too surprised with her brothers, after all, she more or less expected them to join their family members in Cascaro. But her mother was another story. She thought her mother would stay in Connecticut, but perhaps her mother was just like the rest of her relatives, and family meant everything. Not that Eden would argue with that, but she would prefer to put just a bit less emphasis on that. She loved her family, she wouldn’t deny that, but it was hard to think that her family came first when she never fully felt like she fit in. But it was still weird to think that her mother had traveled all this way from Connecticut. Then again, that’s what she had done as well.
She made her way towards the clock tower, where Darrant said he would be. The more she thought about it, the more like a bad idea it seemed. Especially after the talk they had after he saved her from drowning. She had no desire to go through that again. She still felt guilty that she hadn’t gone to look for him, that her family had torn her attention away from him. As much as she loved her family, she didn’t want all of her time to be spent with them. She considered Darrant to be a friend (though if that was still true after their last encounter, she wasn’t sure) and you had to make time aside for friends as well.
She walked cautiously up the stairs of the clock tower, not knowing what to expect. Would he even be there? He said that was where he would be, but there was always the chance that he had given up and left. She hoped it wouldn’t be that. She hated to disappoint others and she was sure that she had disappointed him in not going to see him. Honestly, she was more upset with herself than anything. Maybe she was being too harsh on herself, though she didn’t see it as such. Friends looked out for each other, and she hadn’t done that.
“Darrant?” She called out hesitantly once she got to the top of the stairs. “Are you there?” She waited for a response, or a lack of one if it may be, before she took a step forward. No sense in going any further if her company wasn't wanted.
