With a rat hanging limp and bloody between his jaws, Uriah slumped down into the shade of an old drink stand. It was late afternoon; long eerie shadows draped over the abandoned amusement park, giving the whole place an ominous ambiance. Had he not been so tired Uriah would have strode right on past the rusty entrance sign, but alas, lack of sleep and physical exertion had taken their toll; he'd had almost no choice but to seek rest here. The black Retriever dropped his kill between his muddy paws, gazing at it for a moment as a bluebottle appeared from nowhere to settle on the rodent's seeping eye - Uriah was surprised, it was a little early for flies, no? Regardless he snuffed at the insect, lip curling as his eyes followed it's ascent and departure.
After his meeting with Renier, Uriah had thought more and more about his own solitary life. He wasn't naturally a loner: his upbringing had been a pleasant, busy mix of his humans and canine siblings, though always he'd found himself better inclined to the company of people. To him they were more interesting, more intelligent, more capable. Dogs were, well, they paled in comparison and it frustrated him endlessly that he was forced now to live a life without humankind. Uri wondered often whether he should leave Cascaro - travel beyond the borders of his hometown and seek answers to his own questions as well as reaching for the companionship of humans. But something always stopped him, held him back, and not once had he ever managed to get farther than the outskirts. Perhaps it was that he belonged here?
Uri was too tired to think anymore and instead began to hungrily sink his fangs into the soft body of his prey. As the warm blood poured onto his tongue the dog closed his eyes, tearing at the flesh, savouring every flavour. Ah, bliss.
