Pull, tug, and breathe. Pull, tug, and breathe. The motion repeated over and over again, similar to the way he had helped during the hunting trip. Muscles flexed and groaned in protest as he strained to move the large branch out of the way. The weather was warm, aiding in the dexterity of his joints and muscles but it also made the Mastiff hot and after a little exertion his throat was dry, even as saliva dripped around the branch and down to the ground or rolled down his chest. Grunting he gave one final tug, pulling the branch fully off the path and out of the way. He didn’t have a clue where he was supposed to toss the debris that ruined the beauty of the gardens, but he assumed that as long as it was off well-travelled paths Atticus would be pleased.
Panting heavily, he turned, head hanging low to the ground as he went over to the pond and lapped up a few mouthfuls of cold water. Renier had begun moving large, heavy debris early in the morning, now the sun hovered overhead, signaling mid-day. The Gardens were much nicer- as far as he was concerned- here and there trash that had been strewn across main paths was dragged to the side, occasionally leaving deep gouges in the earth, but they were out of the way none-the-less. It was time for a well-earned break as far as his muscles and back was concerned, but as he turned from the pond, he looked about in search of something else to move. The brindle Kekoan had become quite the helping hand, offering his services anywhere he could no matter how exhausted he was. It kept him busy which was good, it gave him less time to hunt down Amanzi and try to explain what had happened in the stables. It also made it increasingly difficult for anyone to say he was a traitor or bad. He was determined to show everyone he was a good dog, not some savage beast hell bent on fighting.
Once more, he took a branch in his mouth and began to his repetitive cycle all over again. Pull, tug, and breathe. Pull, tug, and breathe.
