Willow knew she had to execute a mission in order to be a proper part of Tempest, but the idea of working with an unknown doctor with unknown practices in the fighting ring sounded absolutely atrocious... which is exactly why she accepted. Willow had to see gruesome, ridiculous things in order to get over herself, no matter how reluctant she was. She wouldn't survive in her line of work if she kept balking at ripped open flesh and festering wounds. She assumed Dr. Thackery had seen some shit, enough shit that he probably knew methods Willow did not.
The collie mutt forced herself to leave the Tempest compound. What had started out as a prison had turned into something more like a comfort zone, a place where she could hide herself away and help Rayna with herbs. Remembering herbs and their uses, memorizing where certain herbs grew, and organization helped Rayna gain a little bit of her sanity back each day and kept Willow feeling like her paws were busy. If her paws were not busy, Willow was useless. Willow did not like to feel useless, she liked to feel empowered. Tempest gave her some of that back, little by little.
She found herself dragging her feet to the fighting ring, anticipating dingy quarters, an unkempt doctor, and unique (if not possibly disturbing) medicinal tecniques. Don't be ridiculous, Willow, he's a normal doctor. You have a lot to learn from him. Despite her mental reassurance, she found herself gulping down fear as she found herself face to face with the fighting ring. It loomed in front of her, its dull boards were like rough skin, encasing a monster that she had to walk inside of, straight through the mouth. So she did. Willow waltzed straight through the front doorway and found herself immediately stunned.
It reeked of blood, the smell coming from below the floorboards though surely there had been some spilled in every corner of the warehouse. Though the windows were shattered through and offered ventilation, it was as if the blood was a part of the entire building itself. No amount of fresh air could disguise the stench and Willow found herself rooted to the spot.
