Slyly the husky pup slipped from the room where her supposed sisters and her were supposed to stay unnoticed. Alice had been hiding under the bed for most of her days, and needed to stretch her legs, but more importantly she needed to get away from the stares. She was getting looked at as if she were crazy or had a piece of glass in her eye. She was tired of being the weird one, when she did not recall their parents in general let alone recall them eating other dogs. Her "sisters" talked about it as if it were the most normal thing in the world, but the oblivious Alices stomach churned at the thought. They asked her if she could speak to flowers and then stared at her as if she were crazy when she said no? Alice did not understand this life that was apparently hers, and she wasn't sure that she wanted to go back to it. Was being an orphan worse than having parents that were not morally sound? She wondered that often, and almost prayed that no one would come for them, especially her. Alice did not want to go with them, perhaps Kekoa was her real home.
She was of a size now that she could easily go up and down the steps, but she did not remember the many falls she had taken to get to that size. Alice did not remember her laughs or cries, or anything. Her mind was a blank page that could have been filled with any wonderland that she imagined as a younger pup, but now it was blackness. She reached the bottom of the stairs and huffed, after spending the last day or so under that bed she was stiff. She attempted to stretch herself out, by first pulling her entire body forward and then her entire body backwards. Her muscled contracted and then released underneath of her pelt, and then she stood up straight. She was half the height she would be full grown, and barely the weight. Alice was thinner than she should have been, having not eaten much since her arrival. It wasn't because she they didn't offer her food, it was more due to her memory. It seemed just the thought of losing her identity had killed any appetite she might have had, and therefore her weight declined.
She heard her a noise to her left, and so she darted down a hallway to her right to keep from being seen. The backdoor to the mansion was ajar so she bolted through it, determine to get some sort of freedom before she was noticed. Alice had not tried to leave the room upstairs, so she wasn't sure whether she was allowed or not. Either way, Alice sat on the small structure that made up the back deck of the mansion. It had a rickety roof over top and most of the railings had been destroyed in the storm. The Husky walked over to the edge of the porch where the sunlight could reach her face, and she sat down in it. Warmth spread through her body as if reassuring her that everything would be okay. Even though she knew things were more complicated than that.
