I HEARD SOMEONE SAY
THAT SHE'S HONEST AND GOOD
The mansion was hardly an inviting place, at least to her.
Whenever she wandered the halls she was struck by the realization that these dogs had stripped her of her home and left her with nothing. They seemed so peaceable, welcoming even. Perhaps they couldn’t remember that she was there as well, or they just didn’t care anymore. Eos felt out of place, wandering the long walkways without anyone in the form of company — in part because she wanted to be alone.
Ducking her head to avoid yet another conversation with a friendly mongrel, she took to the stairs with as much haste as possible given her repetitious movements. Gaining the top stair she heaved in a breath to hold it. If she was lucky she would be alone up here as well. Walking toward a room near to where she and her sibling stayed, she got rather lost after the distraction and took a wrong turn. That wrong turn led her into a completely different hallway with a room that looked similar but was quite obviously not theirs.
Stopping just after she had entered the doorway her eyes grew wider, round dishes that told of her shock but nothing of her shame. “I’m so-so-so-so-so-sorry,” she started while keeping a paw off the ground, her head going down toward her chest. If she was mistaken for bowing then so be it, all she wanted was to hide her face.
Eos’ embarrassment did nothing well for her as she pulled backward in jerky movements that frustrated her so much that she would repeat them even more. What became the norm became abnormal, her frustration growing as she tried to retrieve some modicum of rational while she stuttered her steps. “I-I-I-I-I-I will leave,” she managed with a breathless, murmured apology just edging out behind her words.
Eos glanced toward the collie mongrel with the tiniest of smiles. Overcome with the buzzing between her ears she swallowed down her unease to make her leaving as smooth as possible.
