THE HEART BEATS TEN AND INTERMITS
"Righ' this way," Rook directed as the African Wild Dog trotted along behind him. He hadn't been there at the assault or the arrest, and as a result didn't much know the circumstances of the evaluation. All he did know was that he was supposed to lead the doctor to perform a mental evaluation.
Motley, on the other hand, was gravely aware of all of her necessary duties, and as a result her fears were starting to creep in. She hadn't had to do many mental evaluations before, although when she did it was usually from a more sad perspective than dangerous: Boreas, for example, or Nikola. Although she was nervous, however, Motley was more than a little intrigued to begin this particular duty. She had heard so much about the assault from Nikola's perspective (and, to a lesser degree, Ravenna's secondhand information) but had nothing from the attacker's. She did not mistrust Nikola but wanted to get a full story on the situation.
Rook stopped by the cell, down a ways from the more lax-security area. Motley sat down, hindquarters pressed against the opposite wall. If the rumors were true, then she would do well to stay as far away as possible.
But that didn't mean that she was going to be passive. "Hello there, Kodiak. I'm here to ask you some questions." Against her own personal code, Motley let out the flash of a smile. If those who were just helpless wanderers needing assistance were sometimes scared and concerned about Motley's presence, then this man certainly would. "There's nothing to fear." She cut out the last part, which would have told the poor man that if he failed, then he would just be in here for the rest of his life. He likely wouldn't be executed; Kekoa was not much a fan of that, but how could they let a madman go free?
Motley felt no sympathy for the man. She was not here to shut him up for the rest of his life, but she was not here to help him. She was here for the truth.
