Layla could see how her words effected the Sheriff, seeing how he became more stern at first, then disgruntled. She needed this. As she had been told, Caymus was a hothead, very prideful by nature, and by showing him to be mistaken or misunderstanding, she could start to expose it, and help only to strengthen and add to her stance in this negotiation. She fought to remain with a solemn expression, for she knew any sign of weakness or arrogance would not be appreciated, with potential to end the negotiations with bad blood instead of a trade. Such was to be avoided at all costs, as she did not want to be the one coming back and telling Tzafar that her efforts were fruitless, and that Kekoa had been made into less than a potential ally to Tempest. Repressing any signs of ebullience, she tuned in once more to the sheriff. She could give to him her every ounce of attention, but these negotiations were growing borderline tedious. Neither side would get exactly what they had come in expecting from it. Kekoa would not get prisoners without needing to give up something of value, and Tempest wouldn't get everything they had come in asking for. That was the nature of negotiations, the trading of things deemed desirable by another party, and striking a deal for the exchange. Layla took in another deep breath, letting the air expand her diaphragm, and contract with her exhalation. She listened to the haughty sheriff, keeping in mind that she did have a responsibility to bring back everything she could to her family in Tempest.
The growl in Caymus's voice was almost alarmingly audible, and Layla took the brief pause in his words to consider the direction it was going. He wasn't going to give her six pardons. But he was letting a little bit of anger seep through his words, a sure sign that he most likely wanted the negotiations over sooner rather than later.
Layla nodded her head to show attentiveness and that she was indeed listening, and in her mind began to draw up a new bargain that seemed more doable for both parties negotiating. She let her maw open, the crisp air rolling over her tongue for just an instant before she felt she had inhaled enough to be sufficient for her words.
" Caymus, sir, I came here to negotiate the terms of exchange for Dodger and Syx, who as you know are being held by Tempest. I do not wish to give them over without reward, however, it would be more beneficial to both of our parties to settle on something agreeable. You suggested that in addition to an extent of forgiveness for my Commandant's crimes against your pack, 3 passes for when a member of Tempest may act apart from the ideals held by your own pack. I am willing to exchange the prisoners for 4 of the small passes in addition to the certain reduction of her wanted status. That is 2 passes for each prisoner being handed over. Less than I had asked for initially, but a bit more than your statement entails. Provided these terms are fair to you, I will head back to Tempest, and dogs will be sent to accompany Dodger and Syx as escorts."
