WHY IS IT THAT YOU COULD ONLY SEE THE WORST IN ME
I SWEAR SOMETIMES I FEEL LIKE IT NURTURES ME

”I’m looking for Tzafar, sweets, can you get her for me?” At first she was just stared at. ”Here, need me to sign it for you?” The cheeky grin was a knife to a gunfight but Lark wasn’t overly concerned. There was no more pretense, no more joking when the dog finally left with Lark offering the meeting someplace else.
It would be on her terrain, on her terms, on her time. She would give Tzafar the semblance of control by asking for the locale but it was her set up that would make the world go ‘round.
So she waited, the dark shadows long becoming her friend in the early morning light. It was crisp enough that her breath could have cracked, feathering out with soft clouds forming just at the end of her snout. Snow was light, just barely falling, when she had made for the gutted building. Between her paws rested a rusted blade, still sharp enough that it had cut the very tip of her tongue just slightly.
The weather clinched tight around her as a glove, siphoning out the warm air just as quickly as the winter had gripped this tiny little town. Her gold eyes flitted like wild birds, dangerous despite the lack of size she had.
Swathed in darkness beneath the sagging ceiling, threatening to come down around her shoulders like her former empire had. Lark knew a fellow czar when she heard of one, and if the rumors were anything to be told she would surely see. Her gaze was unwelcoming to passerby, engaged only for the behemoth who would either welcome her into the fold or push her back to the guttered streets she belonged in.
Banking on the former Lark anticipated the meeting with no apprehension, only a bubbling excitement that tasted better than anything she had ever known.
