Winter, usually his favorite season. It was normally the only time of the year where his thick coat actually came in use, not only to help keep him warm but to help him blend in as well. Spring, summer and fall he stuck out like a sore thumb, but with winter came snow and all of its pure whiteness, perfect for the fluffy white dog. Unfortunately, the snow had yet to fall and so, he still stuck out remarkably well much to his disappointment but he didn’t mind. Now it was cool and he no longer panted with every step, he was no longer uncomfortable every minute of the day, no now he moved around comfortably. The canine even had a bounce to his step as he wandered through the woods searching for something to eat.
The frigid morning temperatures didn’t just effect the canines in the area, however, bears were gone for hibernation but there were other large predators still out searching for food and a dog was almost always on the menu. The prey that was so bountiful in the other three seasons seemed to disappear once the first cold night hit. Today was no exception, the white canine wandered quietly through the woods searching for something to eat. His bouncy stride would pause every so often so he could sniff the air and look about, wondering if he had missed something before continuing on in search of a nice hare or other lingering small creatures. There were deer, he knew that, he had seen the tracks from the night before, but he was not interested in such game, he was a loner and only had himself to care for. A large carcass would go to waste until the snows came, then he could count on the freezing temperatures to preserve his meals…he would just have to stand guard and make sure no other scavengers took advantage of his cache.
