Winter. His short coat made it easy to hate the season, the cold made it all the easier, it was part of the reason he had returned to the city mid-fall. He didn’t want to be caught out in the freezing cold at night. Some of the days weren’t too bad, the sun was enough to warm him up, its rays attracted to his dark brindle coat. Today was not one of those days. The wind was nearly gone, but even still, the chilled air was enough to leave a biting sting on his skin until it was completely numb. In the late morning air, even with the sun each breath came out as a curling puff of white.
Shivering, the Mastiff mix made the last bit of the journey at a smooth- if slightly hurried- run. The weather was a nightmare, but he had food for whoever needed it and that made it all worth it to Renier, he was eager to help and to prove he was there for good. Plus, he figured if he showed as many Kekoans as possible that he was nice and not a monster like the group he had originated from…well…maybe they would believe him when he said he had no part in anything against Kekoa. Of course, the latter was true, he only wanted to help his new pack and his friend Atticus…but he knew of at least two dogs that didn’t believe him and he was sure there were more where they came from.
Taking the steps at a jump, his back paws slipped out from under him when he reached the top, having not noticed an icy patch. Grunting he climbed back to his paws and with a sheepish grin glanced around to see if anyone saw. Confident that no one had, he continued on his way. The Mansion was cold, but not nearly as cold as outside, in the winter there were blankets to wrap up in for the dogs that needed it and although he was cold, he often did without so other dogs could be warm- he had been out in winter before, he had survived. He could do the same here. Walking through the mansion to the food storage, he paused when he crossed the healer’s room. His ears pushed forward as he noticed a dog, he hadn’t known anyone was injured, but then again he also didn’t recognize the injured canine.
Shrugging, he turned into the room, glancing around to see if the healer was there. She wasn’t. Renier dropped his hare next to the injured dog and smiled with his tail waving behind him. “Hi…are you hungry?” He asked, looking around her to see if there was food, but there wasn’t. The female had to be hungry…right? Renier did notice she had water and after a moment of silence, “I’m Renier…but you can call me Ren…everyone else does.” He took a step back, giving her space and then sat down, tongue lolling as his body continued a softer shiver. Already he was warming up, but with it came the stinging of skin that had been numb and no longer was. “I hope you’re staying plenty warm in here…I can get more blankets if you’re cold…” He wanted to the dog to be comfortable, but he wondered if his questions were somewhat annoying to her…Well shut up and let her answer and find out. He thought and immediately decided to follow the thought and waited patiently for her to speak.
