Father and daughter stared at each other for some time in silence. The latter sat with head lowered, her expression screwed in perpetual cringing as her father quietly regarded her. Alexander had told him about her outburst, leaving them both after the relaying of information once the sheriff had ordered him out. She was completely at the mercy of her father and superior, well aware that he was one to purposely put bias aside. In fact, she was sure she was going to be stripped of rank and dumped as a Kekoan civilian just to avoid the appearance of being biased. Caymus was a hard man and Calypso had always been over-emotional, eager to please, the only one of her siblings left not to snap. But I did snap. A dramatic, glorified temper tantrum.
To her horror, he said nothing. Caymus was silent, watching her closely with his jaw set and a sigh occasionally escaping his maw. He was deliberating. "Sir?" The girl dared to reach out into the silence. Her father stood with a new sense of certainty and glared at her. It was the only form of punishment she would receive from him. "Atticus will decide what is to be done with you." Calypso stood to join him, rigid in her stance but apologetic in her expression. "A shame, I imagine you won't enjoy sparring with your sister today quite as well." Caymus was practically jovial in his tone, pushing open the door and leading his defeated daughter out into the prison yard.
Calypso's heart was lightened, fluttering in her chest at the idea of a spar. She wanted to push away her atrocities and appreciate a fight. Her sister was better and her father was angry; she knew she would have to work hard to impress Caymus at all. She turned to look at him as he sat beside the door, waiting for his other daughter to arrive. The father and daughter pair were once again thrown into a tense silence, waiting for Lyall to arrive and relieve it.
