He hadn’t met with Atticus yet, but it seemed he was welcomed back into Kekoa….sort of. Still, out of hesitation and perhaps respect he kept his distance from the mansion and instead chose to sleep in the rotting stables. In his time alone he had hardly had a roof over his head…perhaps a dirt ceiling if he could find a large hole in the ground, but for the most part, he slept little and he remained alert even in slumber. The rotting wood of the stables and the musty and moldy scent of long soiled hay as well as the scent of vermin was more soothing than the overload of canine scents in the mansion.
Ren had noticed several dogs coming through the stables but his dark brindle coat and his newly acquired skill at blending in and being quiet kept him for the most part unnoticed- just how he wanted it. Until his chat with Atticus he was wary of all members here, especially those within the police force that had been there the night he had ran away…Thorne especially. The thought of running into the officer still made his skin crawl and his heart race, the officer had accused him of something he had not done, as if Lamora would run to Kekoa to take back the cowardly son only to find Benjamin instead. Ren rolled his eyes as he had done so many times while bitterly thinking about that night, Benjamin’s capture had nothing to do with the brindle mongrel. This was because of the raid. Perhaps it was wrong for Ren to run as he had, but the male couldn’t think that, not now. So much had changed, especially with himself…however, he was still afraid of his father…he was still very much afraid of Badai and what they would do if they found him.
Since being back, there were two dogs he had wanted to see (aside from Atticus of course) and thus far he had not heard or seen anything of them. He missed his friend Amanzi, the only dog to really believe in him when he first came to Kekoa. Was she still there? Perhaps even more pressing was the pup he had left behind, Akela…he had promised not to leave her side and within weeks he had broken that promise. Was she still with Kekoa, was she alright? Shaking his head, he rose to his feet and trudged quietly into the center of the stables and stretched, as if he were going to leave. Instead he just stood there looking around, wondering where to go now; he was tired of sitting in the stables.
