Ordinarily, dogs were not foolish enough to try following someone like Aela Agilulfo around. If they did not fear her father's reputation, they feared what she could do to them if she got into the right mood to do so. It was not exactly any secret that Aela was sadistic and callous at best, and dogs preferred not to be on the receiving end of her lashing tongue- or whatever creative 'punishments' she deemed necessary for them to face. Of course, Aela didn't have the heart to tell all these whisperers that she was normally harmless as a fly, and only ever bothered to resort to violence when her family or friends were threatened, preferring to use biting sarcasm and thinly-veiled threats to scare any would-be threats off. Let them fear her, as perhaps they rightfully should have. If nobody could get close enough to her to try and discover if those words were true, then nobody could hurt her again. It was as simple as that. And most dogs, no matter how dim-witted they were, had at least enough intelligence to honor that particular wish. It would seem that chivalry was not entirely dead in this pathetic excuse for a city, for the majority of dogs seemed to realize that she wanted to be left alone and did so. And males- males had certainly never dared to try and chase after her before, out of fear of what Grimshaw would do once he discovered that a boy was trying in vain to win his daughter's affections.
That was not the case today, it seemed.
Aela exhaled another quiet breath from her nostrils as she turned down yet another alley in the ghetto, pausing for a moment to listen to the distant sound of paw steps. According to her last set of calculations, she had been followed for the past half-mile or so, and whoever was so doggedly pursuing her seemed utterly unwilling to give up the chase. Several times she thought she'd lost them only for the clatter of a trash can lid or some other such small sound to give them away, causing her to let out a low huff of frustration and continue on her merry way. Damn it, she had not asked for this kind of harassment. All she was trying to do was gather more clues as to the Legion's past- and information on the lands they had claimed- and it was not exactly a secret that she was not feeling in the most conversational of moods as a result. If this particular canine was looking to get conversation out of her, they had quite another thing coming. Growling under her breath, Aela glanced farther down the alley, squinting as the bright summer sun hit her eyes dead-center. Perhaps she should see just what this other canine wanted from her. A dog that was merely looking for conversation would have never followed another canine- who clearly wanted to be left to their own devices- all this way. Either her present (and unwilling) company was looking for a fight, or something else entirely.
And so she'd continue walking for a few more strides before whipping around, her chocolate gaze piercing while a small snarl curled the corners of her lips. "May I ask just what it is you want? Surely you haven't been tracking me for the last half-mile for nothing." She took a daring step forward, her head held high as her mouth warped into an ugly sneer. "There's no point in trying to conceal yourself. I know you're there. And for the record, whoever taught you to stalk might want to contemplate teaching you a few more lessons. You were about as subtle as a herd of cows in the forest, my friend."
