Pine needles crunched underfoot as Hyde wove his way towards the mines, inhaling the crisp mountain air while occasionally taking a moment to glance back at the two cadets accompanying him, making sure that they were not falling behind or struggling due to the relatively quick pace that he'd set. But there was a reason for such urgency, after all, one that the cadets would surely understand had they spent any time at all listening to recent news around Kekoa. Atticus's son was currently missing, cruelly snatched from their territory, and with the chances of finding him alive and well dwindling with each passing day they could not afford to sit idly by. They needed all the information they could get as quickly as possible, so that they could report back to the proper authorities and be one step closer to determining Benjamin's location. Not that Hyde was feeling particularly optimistic about such a concept, but he figured he'd humor his superiors if nothing else.
He'd stubbornly trek on for a few more strides before the entrance to the mines came into view, a location that the gang they'd gone up against had been known to inhabit. While Hyde had not been privileged enough to be a part of the strike team (a fact which he was still rather passive-aggressively miffed about), he still found himself feeling a strange sort of awe as he stared up at the gaping mouth of the mines. Certainly it was a rather concealed hiding place, enough that a dog wouldn't even know it was inhabited unless they knew what to look for. But Kekoa had triumphed over them either way, a fact which he was momentarily puzzled about before shrugging it off. They were here to perform duties, after all. Get information, flush any remaining members of the gang out, the whole nine yards. Just the usual routine bullshit that they had to perform on a daily basis.
Hyde turned to face the two cadets after a moment, sizing them up. He was confident in Alexander's abilities, at least. The boy was exceptionally good at dealing with difficult situations and had a relatively level head on his shoulders, which would make him a valuable asset should they run into any trouble. He was well on his way to becoming a fine police officer, but the fact that Hyde had made such a bad impression on him before meant that he was determined to not show any kind of weakness in front of the golden-furred cadet. Ravenna, on the other hand- she was ambitious, Hyde would give her that, but she had a habit of approaching situations with that kind of "strike first and ask questions later" mentality that Hyde would have detested had she been any other dog. And the fact that he had yet to see either of them in action left the question of just how well-developed their fighting skills were up in the air. Still, this was the team he'd been tasked with, and now he was expected to look after them. He could do that much, at least.
"A'ight, lissen up," he rumbled out in his usual low baritone. "Ah'm assumin' ya all know th' drill. We're checkin' fer any signs o' B'njamin, an' seein' if there'r 'nymore o' those gang members ta rustle out." He'd pace in front of them for a moment before deciding on a plan of action. "Fer now, we stick tagether. We don' know what's in those mines, an' th' last thing we need is ta get separated an' walk inta an ambush, as unlikely as that may be. We search fer any signs 'a life, an' we question anyone who shows up. An' remember...only use force if ya have ta. Any questions?" He'd wait a reasonable amount of time to hear any remarks the cadets had to make before slipping inside the mines, letting his eyes adjust to the darkness for a moment before whispering out a command. "Move f'rward and be on alert. Ah get th' feelin' that we won't be alone in here."
