February 1st, 2010 New Month - A new month is upon us, and with the new month comes new awards. Congrats to Abigale for winning MotM, 911 (played by Frithe) for winning CotM, and a quote by Kira (played by Danger) for winning quote of the months. The second RiA Yearbook has also been posted, so to see which characters won which positions check out the thread located here. RiA has also had a little makeover, making the m-table slightly smaller and adding a few more tables to the side tables. A few new features have also been added to the site, including natural disasters in the weather forecast and a “dog catcher” who will be popping into threads at random to take dogs captive. It is up to you whether your character is captured or escapes. To read more about these new features read the updated rules thread.

After browsing through the rules feel free to look over the three different packs of the city in order to get a feel for each’s lifestyle. You make characters who are loners, but we highly encourage you to have at least one character in one of the packs. Their lifestyles vary greatly so you should be able to find a personality which matches one of the three.

[ ]» Abandoned Fortress

For protection against other cities back long before Cascaro was formally established castles were the only method of protecting humans from outside attackers. This old fortress is one of the last standing from this old time. A tall stone wall surrounds the main castle, stones falling out of place and ivory growing across its surface. There is only way to get past it, and that is through the gates at the front of the fort. Slip past the main gates and a large moat surrounds the main building, though only about a foot of mud is present in the moat. Cross the drawbridge which is on the verge of completely crumbling and you will enter the main building. Rooms vary from the kitchen to bedrooms, to old rooms with assassination weapons and grand dinning halls. And though very old this fortress still has many hidden tricks within its borders, for those who dare to trespass onto this sacred land.

[ ]» County Prison

Down at the very tip of the southern part of town is where those who committed crimes were placed: the County Prison. Surrounding the perimeter is a large concrete barrier, making sure the captives within could not escaped unnoticed. Guard towers are at each of the four corners, shinning lights down in the court yard at night making sure every corner is watched over. They are monitored by computers, so they continue to search the courtyard even with the prison abandoned by human kind. In the middle of the territory is the actual jail where thousands of cells once held those who broke the law. Inside each cell is a single bed, toilet, and window which is too high to escape from. The rooms are small, just six by eight feet, barely enough room needed for the humans stored within its boundaries. There is a large cafeteria with slop still present in one of the large pots, if one is desperate for a meal.

[ ]» Skeleton Cove

Far off at the end of a long stretch of beach at the edge of the city lies Skeleton Cove, a large and mysterious cave of which few have the courage to enter. It is deep and dark with countless tunnels twisting and turning within its depths. Its name is given due to the skeletons lingering on the cave floor, the victims of the cave who were not fortunate enough to find their way out. Little to no light can enter the cave, making it even more dark and ominous. The floor is cold and damp with stalactites and stalagmites formed from the dripping cave roof. It is rumored that only true leaders are capable of maneuvering their way through the cave without becoming lost in its depths. In the center of the cave lingers a pool of ocean water with an underwater tunnel leading back to the ocean. Of course, few are capable of finding this mystic pool, and even fewer can find their way back after discovering it.

[ ]» Yorkdale Subway Station

The most popular method of transportation back in the days where humans dominated the city is now left abandoned for anyone daring enough to enter its depths to explore. Descend down the staircase and you will find the turnstile which requires you to pay a dollar fifty to use the subway. No guard is present next to the turnstiles however, so crawling under it or jumping over it will give you no penalty. Down the maze of tunnels are various subways with the trains still residing dormant on the tracks, some with doors still open waiting for passengers to board their depths. Florescent lights flicker overhead providing little lighting to those inside the subway. The third rail is still capable of killing anyone who steps on the silver rail, whether the act be by accident or instigated by another being. Many seek refuge here, for it is underground and protective against nature’s forces.

[ ]» Old Mansion

The richest people in town bought the largest plot of land the city would allow, and upon it built this large home with countless rooms, a pool in the back yard, and grand gardens in the front yard. But when the stock market crashed in the late 1920s they lost everything, including this grand estate. The home contains three floors, not including the basement and old attic. The set up is not as modern as it would be today, meaning there are no televisions or other electronics of modern times. Crabgrass grows across the lawn and ivy grows along the mansion walls. Windows are left open with curtains swaying in the breeze. The pool is old and grimy with leaves and dirt discoloring the once clear water. The old paint is chipping and the roof is losing shingles, but the old building has yet to fall.

This majestic garden is no small plot of land, but rather it encompasses acres and acres of land waiting to be explored by anyone willing to pass through the marble gate at its front. Countless plants, trees, and shrugs are scattered about everywhere, from the traditional tulips and sunflowers to rare and exotic species. And along with these plants comes many insects, some more friendly than others. A large pond sits in the center of the gardens with various species of fish swimming within the depths of the crystalline liquid. Paths snake throughout the garden for those wanting to survey the gardens. But without human care many of the plants are wilting or dead and crabgrass has sprouted along the walking cobblestone paths. Sitting benches have fallen apart leaving splintered wood behind. But even with these changes the majority of the gardens remain breathtakingly beautiful with thousands of feet of area waiting to be explored.

[ ]» Crashed Pirate Ship

Long before Cascaro was formally a city, pirates passed its shores on a quest for gold. A brutal fight broke out between two rival ships, leaving one to crash against the rocks by the shore, incapable of being repaired. This ship is long and tall, holes scattered throughout its side and belly from where the rocks pierced through the wood. During high tide the floor has about a foot of water on the bottom floor, concealing many of the entrances and exits. The main deck up above has cannons and old treasures left behind from the pirates who owned the ship. A few rooms are present where the crew ate, slept, and conducted trade among other pirates. The floor is weak from soaking up the salt water, some prepared to break at any amount of added pressure. High above the sail is still collecting the wind, the crow’s nest still up high and prepared to sight danger wherever it may come.

[ ]» The Swamp

By the outskirts of the city lays an old swamp left untouched by human kind. A combination of the murky waters, unpleasant aroma, and dense vegetation seems to be a turn off for humans, leaving it for the dogs to take over. Most of the area is covered in watery mud, home to most of the mosquito population. Maneuvering through the mud can be challenging with sink holes scattered everywhere with no warning to indicate their presence. Once trapped within these holes it nearly impossible to escape their grasp. Where dry grounds can be found there there are countless rocks, tree roots, and other types of vegetation to make the area even more dense. Little sunlight filters through the dense canopy of tree leaves above, making the muddy waters cold to the touch. Strange creatures can be found living in this area, but what seems stranger is why canines would want to wander into a territory like this in the first place.

Atop the largest cliff in the city sits Split Rock Lighthouse, one of the oldest monuments of the city. Built back in the late 1800s, it was once used to keep ships in line while out at sea. Now it sits dormant with its single light still revolving around in circles, just in case a ship still needs its assistance. Countless steps bring you up to the top deck where the wind is always strong and bone-chilling. Certain steps are worn away and others are completely split, making the journey to the top level difficult. Black metal bars encircle the top deck to ensure the safety to those up top – to a certain extent, that is. The bright yellow light is always shinning a blinding light in your eyes atop the house, a strange humming noise emitting from the rusted parts causing its motion. Just be careful of your footing, for the fall down is far from pleasant.

[ ]» Deep Seas Emporium

The emporium holds two levels. Once used nearly every day, they stand empty for the strays to explore on their own without the fret of human interference. The first contains fish of every type and species, from the well known species such as clown fish or angel fish, to species only found at the ocean floor. They can be seen swimming both above and below you in some areas of the emporium, making these areas a popular sight. Rooms and tunnels are surrounded with glass walls, each acting as a portal to see another world under the sea. Outside there are areas for other animals such as seals and polar bears, though most have been reduced to just skeletons. Move up to the second level and you will find a vast museum of all types of animals, not just the fish located on the first floor. From dinosaur skeletons to interactive activities, this museum has countless activities to offer. A food court is also located on the second floor, proving rotten food for those desperate for a quick meal.

[ ]» Clock Tower

To keep track of time this old clock tower was established for those too cheap to buy a decent pocket watch. The clock still runs to this day, even if people are too busy with their daily lives to pay attention to it. Machinery works the upper mechanisms so it is a rare occurrence to find humans here, other than every six months or so to make sure everything is working properly. The front door is always left unlocked; a simple flick of the paw being powerful enough to part it from its door frame. Upon entering the main floor if one looks up they can see all the machine parts up above working hard to keep time running. A stairway leads up to the clock parts for when inspections must be conducted, but a locked gate keeps most from being able to reach this second floor, unless someone is smart enough to get around the system to settle their curiosity of what lays up above.

[ ]» City Pier

At the end of the long stretch of beach is the city pier. Once used for the docking of boats, it now rests in place on the verge of collapsing completely. It failed inspection nearly a decade ago, but the city lacked the proper funds to fix it, so instead a thin strand of police tape attempts to block off the entrance, though few listen to its warning. At the end of the pier sits a few old buildings, most used for storage units for fish, lumber, and other items shipped to other cities. An old resturaunt sits at the very end of the pier where fresh fish used to be served everyday. As the population died down it was forced to close, leaving the empty building prepared to be explored along with the old warehouses adjacent to it. The scent of fish and salty air dominates the entire pier, various cracks in the wood threatening to send unprepared victims down to the sandy beaches below.

Near the edge of town a large plot of land was not in use, so to make a profit the city built a large mall in hopes of making a little extra money needed to support their war efforts. But it seemed to backfire on them when few to no people had the gas money to drive to the outskirts to shop at the mall. Three levels of mall is now left abandoned for all to explore, sliding doors helping to keep harsh winds out thanks to pressure sensors detecting when a canine wishes to enter. Various shops reside within this large area, from clothing stores to pharmacies to an old daycare center. A large fountain sits on the bottom floor at the heart of the mall, still running to this day with coins collected at its bottom like dormant fish. The old food court holds a few snacks for those who need a quick meal, tables and chairs tipped over from those too lazy to set them straight.

On hot summer days, what better way was there to cool off than to hit the city pool? One would assume this territory would be a hit, but soon fewer and fewer residents came all the way to the outskirts of town for a swim, to the point where the pool had to be closed down. There is a small building which holds the changing rooms and rest rooms, as well as a small restaurant area for those in need of a lunch or a snack. Behind the building is a fenced in area with the actual pool. A life guard chair sits and guards the pool to enforce all the rules established by the city. Chairs and tables surround the pools for mother watching their young. The deep end is approximately twelve feet deep, the shallow end around three. The water filters still work to clean out the water, so it is decently clean, though no chlorine is present to kill harmful bacteria which may be lingering in the waters.

Back in the old days all of Cascaro was farmland, growing crops for feed the hungry families growing up in the new world. The only farm left standing since then was Miller Ranch, and it was abandoned long ago. It is off in the outskirts, well hidden from the residents of the city, most of whom are oblivious to its existence, for if it was known the land would be sold in a heartbeat. The old red barn still stands to this day with countless stalls inside to hold the various animals which produced goods which the farmers could sell. Off to the side are the fields which were once lush with growing crops, now left with dried up vegetation turning yellow from the overgrowth of weeds. The actual home of the Miller’s is between these two locations which is a small home with few rooms inside, most of which are left empty from the family who abandoned it.

[ ]» Catchatory Falls

Deep within the outskirts of Cascaro is a long, wooded area. It is the last untouched piece of earth left alone by the humans of the city, a neutral territory between Cascaro and its rival ciy. Paths weaved through the tree trunks for hiking paths created by humans, though it is rare to find humans wandering this area. The tree branches above create canopies which allow little sunlight to filter through their branches, casting shadows across the forest floor. In the middle of these woods however is a large cliff, and cascading from it is Catchatory Falls. This waterfall flows into a large lake which then filters into a creek which divides the woods into two. The lake area is beautiful with many plants and much wildlife surviving off the fish population in the waters. The water is almost completely clear, allowing one to see to the bottom of the lake. The water never completely freezes, so even in winter strays can find a quick drink of water at this rumored magical waterfall.

Humans are constantly making new buildings for their kind to thrive in, but not all of these projects are completed. When they abandoned their works they leave everything behind, from the old frame of the building to the machines they used to put it in place. At this construction site there is everything one could imagine, from cranes holding up metal bars to bulldozers resting in front of mounds of dirt and rubble. Only half of the building was constructed, leaving a metal skeleton behind without walls or floors. Everything is unsteady providing the element of surprise for canines to guess what structures can support their weight, and which will come crashing down with the tap of a paw. Yellow caution tape blocks the entrance of the center, but so far that has not been enough to discourage others from exploring the territory’s depths.

Strays are rapidly on the loose everywhere, so in order to decrease their rapidly growing amount the citizens of Cascaro have established this kennel to capture and terminate whatever strays they can find. If a dog is found wandering the street without any sort of identification they are captured and locked up in these crates where means of escape are extremely difficult. The entire territory is surrounded with barbed-wire fences, guards lurking around every corner armed with pistols and tranquilizers to return any escapees to the kennels. Dogs have one week for a human to claim he or she as their own, otherwise a single shot ends the life of whatever canines are left over to make room for more captures.

Your entire life you have played it safe. You thought things through before acting, pondering over all possible consequences for your actions, so when the result emerged you were not surprised with what you received. But what would happen if you did not think things through. What would happen if for the first time you acted on the spur of the moment, throwing all thought processes out the window and took the risk you have never taken before. What if you were willing to throw away everything you have learned previously, and took that gamble? If you are ready to take that step, then we welcome you to Risking It All.

Prepare yourself to enter a world where there are no rules, no boundaries, no limits. There is no one holding your hand or shielding you from the cold hard truth. Discover others who are not afraid to push their limits to discover just how far they can go. Decide which path holds your fate, whether it be the route of a maverick or within one of the three packs of the city. Pick who your allies are and who will become your enemies. Find out if you have what it takes to live on your own, or if you will be one of the first to fall.

Here at Risking It All the human population has dwindled down in the city of Cascaro, leaving the canines to dominate the streets. Many buildings have become abandoned over time providing territories waiting to be explored. Three packs emerge with the passing of time: the cunning Cethin, the intelligent Hecate, and the brave Andor. Each pack has taken over a different portion of the city, claiming various territories as their own. Each has a headquarters for only their own pack members to reside within with no tolerance to trespassers.

But what would happen if a single canine had the courage to rebel against this share of power? What is boundaries are crossed and rules of society ignored? What if someone was the first to shatter rules which had remained concrete for decades, just to prove a point? Are you the one strong enough to stand out from the crowd? Or are you one to linger in the shadows, waiting for others to take the lead first? Decide your own character’s fate, join a pack or remain a maverick, and enter the city of Cascaro where your fate is in your own hands, and where the largest gamble you will ever take could turn upside down.

Risking It All is an advanced level of roleplay, meaning we have a 300 word minimum for every in character post and reply. We have just opened on May 23, 2009 and are looking for active members who have some kind of roleplay experience previously, for we are a fast moving and higher leveled site. If you are prepared to take the gamble then we encourage you to join us, as we prepare ourselves for Risking It All.
